Dan Saunders, the AOSA representative on the Wabamun Watershed Management Council (WWMC), reported that the WWMC is trying to reduce the amount of fertilizer getting into Lake Wabamun and is also working with TransAlta to minimize their impact on the lake.
The state of the watershed report is on the WWMC website - www.wwmc.ca     Green Boating.
- The restoration of riparian areas is one of the areas of concern.  The entire shore of Lake Wabamun except for a small area near the Paul First Nation lands has been photographed and areas with damage have been noted.  WWMC is also working with Parkland County so ensure that developments near the lake do not impact the lake, and is distributing brochures listing what can and cannot be done on or near Lake Wabamun (e.g. emptying holding tanks into the lake).
- In response to a question about phosphorus levels in the lake, Dan stated that they are staying steady.  Occasionally the phosphorus-rich sludge at the bottom of the lake gets stirred up and releases phosphorus which causes algae blooms.  Reed beds along the shore would filter out some phosphates.
- In response to a question about invasive plants, Dan stated he will ask about this issue.  The Commodore suggested members form a work party to pull the invasive plants which are growing in parts of the lake.
- An AOSA member informed the meeting that his boat had been inspected by Province of Alberta examiners for invasive marine species.  Members were asked to cooperate with these examiners when they encounter them.
- AOSA members were encouraged to join WWMC and the Alberta Lake Management Society (ALMS) - www.alms.ca

Dock in dates for 2016 are May 7 and 14, and Crane in day is May 21.  Jim Spalding asked that if anyone is interested in an alternate crane in day to e-mail him.
